To improve the significance of the girl child in West Africa as well as celebrate femininity, the Dazzling Damsels of Virtue Foundation (DOVEF) an NGO, recently held a training session to empower 500 girls between the ages of 13 to 15 years.
The event, which held at BON Hotel Sunshine, Presidential Road, Enugu, involved hands-on skill on Ankara craft, cooperation and teamwork, personal conflict management and basic administration skill.
According to the founder of the group, Amarachi Faith Amusi, “this is a power- packed and practical opportunity for the girls and will help them to effectively transit to teenage-hood and adulthood respectively.”
She added that education on basic financial management is key to being a person of value, hence they paired the girls with mentors and encourage women to live their lives with legacy in perspective.
We also recognised, celebrated and awarded women who were actively involved in affecting the lives of girls and other women positively.
One of the speakers, Anne Ekwueme, who is the Creative Director of Zibahbyannekwueme, taught the girls how to be of value to themselves and the society.
She encouraged them to be focused, appreciate their individual uniqueness if they must scale through the issues of low self-esteem.
She also taught the girls to choose the right values if they must succeed in this present world.
While Mrs. Adanna Divine Adeola, a branch manager with Diamond bank educated the girls on saving culture to help them navigate poverty and succeed in any business endeavour they wish to go into in the future, Uju Okechukwu, founder of Gossip, Enugu laid emphasis on education and stressed on the need for the girls to take their academics seriously, be focused and have a vision for their lives.
She added that barriers will arise in life’s journey, but being determined and staying true to their mission will stand them out.
